2020 NSCRO All-Star 7s Rugby Championship

On Thursday, January 16th your CCWRC All-Star 7s Championship team will be heading to St. Petersburg, Florida to compete in the NSCRO 2020 All-Star 7s Rugby Championship held at Eckerd College on Saturday January 18th and Sunday January 19th.

You can watch as your All-Star team takes on Prairie States at 9:00 am east coast time, followed by Great Waters at 11:00 am east coast time on YouTube at https://youtu.be/ZxH65i-e-ow. All matches after that are TBD. We will keep you up-to-date via our Instagram @ccwomensrugby.

Angie Pavao is a sophmore at Lewis & Clark College. The fall semester was her first semester playing rugby and she loves it! In her free time Angie likes to go kayaking, hiking, crafting, napping, and going to concerts.

Leila Shokat is a junior at Reed College. She grew up in San Francisco playing soccer, and started playing rugby when she went to Reed. She loves playing rugby because of the people she gets to meet and play with!

Mari Moore is earning her B.A in Environmental Science, Biology Minor. She is a professional procrastinator. She plays anywhere between 9-15. She has played on 6 different teams:

– Willamette University (Oregon 2016-2020)
– Salem (Oregon, Summer 2017)
– Alhambra Union (New Zealand, 2018)
– Carrington College (New Zealand, 2018)
– Berkeley All Blues (California, Summer 2019)

Join us for the October Cascade All Star 7’s camp. This is a select side camp for the inaugural Cascade All Star 7’s team.

When: Sunday, October 28, 2018, Noon to 4pm

Where: Seattle University’s indoor turf field at 550 14th Ave, Seattle, WA 98112 (SU’s gym)

What to bring: Cleats, rugby shorts, mouth guard, a light and a dark jersey/shirt, water, and snacks

NSCRO Names 2019-2020 Women’s All- Americans

On May 4th NSCRO released the names of their 2019-20 Women’s All-Americans and CCWRC’s very own Leila Shokat was selected.

Leila just completed her junior year at Reed College. She grew up in San Francisco playing soccer and started playing rugby when she went to Reed. She loves playing rugby because of the people she gets to meet and play with.

Leila represented CCWRC’s 7s All Star Team at Eckerd College in St. Petersburg Florida for the 2019 and 2020 All Star 7s Championships.

Conference Championships hosted by Whitman College this Saturday, April 20th

Whitman College will be hosting CCWRC’s 15s and 7s NSCRO conference championships on Saturday, April 20th at 345 Boyer Ave. Walla Walla, WA 99362. This will be the first time a conference wide championships has taken place and featured finals for 15s and 7s.

Western Oregon University will face University of Puget Sound at 8 am to determine who will be named our NSCRO 15s champions. Host team Whitman, Reed, Lewis & Clark, Willamette University, and Southern Oregon University will face off with matches starting at 10 am to determine who will be named our NSCRO 7s champions. Final matches to determine 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place will start at 3 pm.

Unfortunately Seattle University will not be able to attend this weekend due to player injury.

Please be sure to send all correspondence with Willamette to that address. We have nine 7s select side tech T’s for sale. Sizes are men’s medium and large. The cost is $20 plus $5 shipping. Inaugural Cascade 7s Select Side Team Announced

For the first time in CCWRC’s history, we will be sending a Select Side team to NSCRO’s annual 7s All Star Championship. The 7s All Star Championship will take place at Eckerd College in St. Petersburg Florida on January 19th and 20th.

CCWRC All Star 7s Team to compete in NSCRO All Star 7s Championships

CCWRC will be putting together an All Star 7s Team to travel to St. Petersburg, FL to play in the NSCRO All Star 7s Championship at Eckerd College January 19-20, 2019.  We are seeking current players from Whitman College, Seattle University, University of Puget Sound, Reed, Lewis & Clark, Western Oregon University, and Southern Oregon University.

For those who do not know what an All Star Team (aka select side team) is, it is a team composed of players from various teams in a rugby conference. Typically they are players who have never played together, unless multiple players from one team are selected, but they have often played against each other. Player experience often ranges from rookie to seasoned veteran. These players are the best of the best and are very adaptable. Still not sure of what an All Star Team is? Think of our 15s and 7s Eagles.

We will hold two to three camps (team selection and practice) prior to our travel to Florida. For those interested in attending our camps (location and date(s) TBA) please email president.ccwrc@gmail.com. Nervous about coming to a camp on your own? Grab a teammate and bring her along!

International Women’s Day

On Thursday, March 8th, the world celebrated International Women’s Day. We may be a day late in posting this to media other than Instagram but we did not forget about all of the strong, relentless, resilient, intelligent, amazing, dynamic, and all around bad **s women who are ccwomensrugby!!

Keep being amazing and play well this weekend for those playing and for those on Spring Break, have fun and be safe!

Player of the Week, Valentine’s Day Edition

Lewis and Clark have named their Player of the Week: Sandra! “This is her 5th semester of rugby, she’s a flanker, and she loves playing because it’s a great outlet to relieve stress and it’s REAL fun. Outside of rugby you can also find her on the soccer field where she displays dangerous talent in goal. MVP of our intramural soccer team?” (credit-@lcwomensrugby)

This Saturday, EWU will travel to Willamette, Seattle University will travel to Whitman, and UPS will travel to Lewis & Clark, to kick off the first matches of the Spring season!! WOU has a bye this weekend in preparation for their travel match to Seattle University on 2/24. If you’re in the area, get on out there and watch some women’s rugby!!

Seattle University’s Player of the Week is Hannah! “Not only does Hannah’s warm and playful personality bring fun energy to the team, she also happened to be an incredibly fly half. ‘I’ve played a number of sports growing up, but I stated playing rugby in high school and I have never played a sport with such an all around environment of love and support. It’s a sport and a community that provides women with so much confidence, which I think is so incredibly important, especially at this time in our lives. When I tell people I play rugby I usually get a look of surprise mixed with awe and usually a little fear, and I love that and I love rugby.'” Hannah is Seattle U’s Veep.
